Released in 1983, and subsequently in 1985 in the USA, the NES was quickly the most successful gaming console of it's time in both Asia (where it was released as the famicom) and North America. The system produced hits like Super Mario Bros (though our friend Mario had previously been seen in arcades), The Legend of Zelda, Metroid and in it's later years Kirby's Adventure, for the first time introducing the well-known Nintendo franchises we all know and love. The system also had great success with games such as Duck Hunt and Tetris, among others.
The NES was Nintendo's first leap from arcade games into home-console gaming, and still today the system is by some referred to simply as the "Nintendo".
